Design of fireproof glass curtain wall

Fireproof glass curtain wall must have all the characteristics of curtain wall. Such as wind pressure, rain, air leakage, in-plane deformation and other properties. As a glass curtain wall with fire prevention function, in addition to the above functions, the more important function is fire prevention.  

Smoke isolation design

The structure of the curtain wall should achieve the effect of smoke separation. First, it should have good sealing, not only the sealing mentioned in our curtain wall performance, but also the sealing of fire prevention. It should also have good sealing effect within a certain period of time in case of fire. Therefore, the open frame curtain wall and unit curtain wall structure designed by open system are not suitable for the structure of fireproof glass curtain wall. Compared with the sealing design of ordinary curtain wall, two points should be paid attention to: one is the sealing treatment of the inner cavity of profile. In the design of ordinary curtain wall, the vertical materials are plugged and connected, which has the possibility of forming chimney effect. In the design of fireproof glass curtain wall, the cavity must be blocked with flame retardant materials. On the other hand, the sealing failure caused by local thermal expansion deformation of curtain wall in case of fire should be considered. Therefore, waist shaped holes shall be used at the connection parts of the node skeleton of the fire-proof glass curtain wall, and the sealant with good elasticity and fire resistance shall be used for the selection of sealing materials.

Fire integrity design

The curtain wall shall not collapse within the designed fire resistance time limit in case of fire, that is, the selected curtain wall structure and materials must have fire resistance. Therefore, the fire integrity design considers the connection between the curtain wall and the main body first, and then the selection of materials.  

1. The fireproof glass curtain wall shall be complete and independent.

Fireproof glass curtain wall, as the peripheral protective structure of the building, is used to prevent fire from spreading vertically. It is often just a piece or part of a curtain wall. In order to prevent it from collapsing in fire, the curtain wall of its connected part shall be completely separated from the skeleton structure and fully fixed with the main structure. If the plug-in connection of conventional curtain wall is adopted, the fire-proof part will fail due to the collapse of non fire-proof part in case of fire.

2. The fireproof glass curtain wall structure shall have good ability to absorb heat deformation.  

In case of fire, the curtain wall or partition metal framework will expand and elongate due to thermal expansion. If it is not handled properly, the structure will be damaged due to expansion and extrusion and will not play the role of fire prevention. Therefore, in the design, the use of long waist holes or other reserved deformation positions at the connection parts is the key problem to be considered in detail.  

3. The materials of fireproof glass curtain wall shall have fire resistance capacity

In case of fire, the average temperature of the flame within ten minutes after the fire is generally about 700 ℃; Within 20 minutes after the fire, the flame temperature is generally about 800 ℃; Within 30 minutes after the fire, the average flame temperature is about 840 ℃; It can reach about 925 ℃ in one hour. According to the fire resistance time requirements of the building for the fire curtain wall or partition, the selection of appropriate fire-proof materials is the basis for achieving the unity of function and economy. The framework materials of curtain wall are mostly aluminum and steel profiles, but the melting point of aluminum is about 400 ℃. Under the action of fire and high temperature, the mechanical properties of steel, such as yield strength and elastic modulus, will decrease with the increase of temperature. At about 550 ℃, the decrease is more obvious, and generally the load-bearing energy will be lost in about 15 minutes. It can be seen that if fire prevention treatment is not carried out, the fire will burn out within 15 minutes. Therefore, as the framework material of fire-proof glass curtain wall, fire prevention treatment is required. As the main material of fireproof glass curtain wall and partition, fireproof glass is naturally selected. At present, there are many kinds of fireproof glass, and the selection should comprehensively consider the architectural decoration effect, strength, fire resistance limit and so on. The fire resistance of the connecting part is the basis of the integrity of the whole system. The embedded parts and connecting parts at the connecting part shall be provided with fire protection layer.
