Application effect of fireproof glass partition in fire

Fireproof glass partition is widely used in more and more buildings. Fireproof glass partition is widely used in the closed refuge floor of buildings, closed evacuation stairs and the partition of building fire compartment of large venues. As a building component with certain fire resistance limit, fireproof glass partition is widely recognized to control and prevent fire from spreading to other parts of the same building in vertical or horizontal direction. However, as a special fire protection product, if its design and material selection are improper, it may not form a real fire compartment and achieve the purpose of reducing the loss caused by fire.

Fire resistance of fireproof glass partition

Fireproof glass partition belongs to passive fire protection system, and its main function is to prevent the spread of fire. There are four ways of building fire spread: flame spread, heat conduction, heat convection and heat radiation, accompanied by the spread of smoke. In addition to the first method, the flame directly ignites the combustible materials to spread the fire, the latter three methods all ignite the combustible materials in different heat transfer processes, resulting in the spread of the fire. Therefore, the focus of fire partition design is how to prevent fire from spreading.

According to relevant codes, the fire resistance rating of buildings is required to ensure that buildings will not collapse in a short time in a fire. Fireproof glass partition is a part of the building. Its function is to ensure that it remains intact for a certain time after the fire, that is, fire resistance. Therefore, the selection of fire resistance rating in design shall be determined according to the fire resistance rating of the building and the fire protection requirements of the part of the building.   

Functional requirements of fireproof glass partition

According to the fire spreading mode of buildings and the function of fireproof glass partition, it shall have the following basic characteristics:

1. Smoke isolation. That is, when a fire occurs, it can prevent the smoke generated by the fire from passing from the side affected by the fire to the side behind the fire. This is the most basic requirement. Reasonably and effectively blocking the smoke generated by the fire and avoiding the formation of chimney effect is the fundamental to control the spread of the fire and ensure the smooth evacuation passage or effective refuge.

2. Fire integrity. That is, when a fire occurs and one side is exposed to fire, it can prevent the flame from penetrating or appearing on the back fire surface within a certain time. According to the design requirements of building fire protection, the fire partition shall have good integrity. If the fire breaks down or fails to meet the requirements of fire prevention time limit, the fire will also spread, which can not reduce the fire loss.   

3. Fire resistance and thermal insulation. That is, when a fire occurs and one side is on fire, the temperature of the back fire surface can rise within a certain time without igniting the articles in the back fire area. For example, the smoke isolation is satisfied and the integrity is guaranteed. However, due to the large amount of heat radiation after the heat generated by the fire passes through the fireproof glass, the combustibles on the back fire surface are burned, which does not play the role of fire prevention.
